Speciation of trace metals and radiotracers by ion chromatography applied to environmental studies
The environmental behaviour of trace metals (TM) in natural waters is related to chemical form and solubility. Anionic species of trace metals are more mobile in a soil than their cations. Consequently TM speciation is an expanding field in TM pollution research. This paper reports on experiments carried out to check the radiochemical purity of trace metal radiotracers using high performance ion chromatography (HPIC) combined with radiometric detection. Ion chromatographic analysis was also used to identify and quantitatively determine the TM oxyanions in coal fly ash leachates.
