This paper reports on the high temperature chemical interactions observed in the TMI-2 reactor accident. The following topics are discussed: (i) the TMI accident and samples - core, agglomerate, fuel rod segments; (ii) the starting materials; (iii) the reactions of materials - fuel (UO(2)), cladding (Zry, Sn), structural materials (Ni, Fe, Cr), absorber (Ag, In, Cd) and fission products; (iv) core degradation caused by material interactions - estimations of conditions in the core; (v) conclusions.
