Intercomparison of thermal ac-dc current transfer standards
The established ac-dc current transfer standards and measurement set-ups of six national standard laboratories of the European Community were intercompared under the auspices of BCR by circulation of a set of ac-dc current transfer standards between 1989 and 1991. From the data obtained it can be deduced that ac-dc current measurements in the European Community for the most important current range in the industrial application of accurate measurements from 10 mA to 20 A, in the frequency range from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, are well established. At low current levels from 10 mA to 100 mA, the agreement is 10 to 30 x 1.0 E-6, degrading to 100 x 1.0 E-6 up to 1 A and 100 kHz. Over the full range of currents up to 10 A (20 kHz) and 20 A (5 kHz) the agreement is better than 70 x 1.0 E-6 (k = 1). The actual agreement limits are proposed as a basis for establishing a common reference in industry and science in Europe.
