Studies in health technology and informatics : Volume six : Progress in standardization in health care informatics
Important efforts are being made in Europe, the USA and elsewhere to stimulate coordination of standardisation in the field of health care informatics. In Europe, it was only with the introduction of telematics in health care that the urgent need for organised standardisation activities and for a common use of standards in health care informatics was disclosed. In order to respond to this challenge, the European Standardisation Committee (CEN), in March 1990, approved the establishment of a Technical Committee for Medical Informatics (CEN TC 251). This volume gives an overview of the current standing of the work in health informatics standardisation worldwide. The topics discussed include: models, electronic messaging, open systems, health cards, imaging, communication with medical devices and data protection.
