Studies in health technology and informatics : Volume nine : Rehabilitation technology strategies for the European UnionFunded under: HS-TIDE 0
TIDE is the EC programme aimed at stimulating the creation of a single market in rehabilitation technology through cooperation in R&D projects, standardisation and harmonisation of technological products and services. Rehabilitation technology is the total of technologies provided directly to elderly and/or disabled people, to enable them to live more independent lives and become integrated in all the activities of their communities, preferably outside of institutional care. The focus of TIDE is to find pragmatic technological solutions that enable and empower disabled and/or elderly people by reducing their handicaps. This book, written by experts from inside and outside Europe, presents the results of the projects of the 1st TIDE Congress, held in April 1993 in Brussels. It discusses critical issues and possibilities for the future of rehabilitation technology in Europe; a future concerning an enormous market of between sixty and eighty million people.
