Studies in health technology and informatics : Volume eleven : Low vision : Research and new developments in rehabilitation
In concordance with VISIO (the Dutch national foundation for the visually impaired and blind), a conference on low vision was held in Groningen, the Netherlands, in July 1993. This book provides an overview of the current state of the art in: (i) the quantitative determination of visual functioning (physiological optics, psychophysics and neuropsychology); (ii) rehabilitation of visual impairments (training and techniques through optics, video display, lighting), social studies in rehabilitation (orientation and mobility skills, training in daily activities, occupational skills); (iii) field work from both scientific research and practical experiences in education and rehabilitation with special emphasis on the construction of an integrative model in rehabilitation, comprising the physics of visual assessment as well as learning of rehabilitative occupational skills. Detailed accounts of the integrative approach in low vision rehabilitation of special interest groups such as the elderly, young children, and developing countries complete this reference work.
