This article reports on research into neutron elastic scattering from actinides and anomalous lanthanides. The main aim of the research has been to gain an understanding of the bonding in intermetallic systems. Details of the work carried out are discussed under the following headings: (i) structural effects; (ii) magnetic form factors; (iii) magnetic structures; (iv) magnetic critical scattering.
