Investigation of the form in which technetium is retained in a borosilicate glass containing simulated high level nuclear wasteFunded under: FP2-RADPROT 7C
A series of samples of borosilicate glass loaded with 99Tc was prepared under reducing conditions. The glass was examined to define the form in which the technetium was present. Only a small amount, around 250 wt. ppm, was dissolved homogeneously into the glass. Most of the technetium was concentrated in metallic inclusions dispersed in the glass. The composition of the phases present is reported, together with the effect of corrosion in clay and sea sediments.
