Abstract

This report describes the preparation of a skimmed milk powder reference material with natural levels of major and trace elements. The homogeneity and stability studies and the analytical work performed for the certification of the contents of some major and trace elements are described. The report contains all the results and gives the methods used to certify the contents of Ca (13.49 mg/g), Cl (9.94 mg/g), K (17.68 mg/g), Mg (1.263 mg/g), N Total (62.3 mg/g), Na (4.37 mg/g), P (11.10 mg/g), Cu (0.602 micro-g/g), Fe (2.32 micro-g/g), I (0.81 micro-g/g), Pb (18.5 ng/g) and Zn (49.0 micro-g/g). The certified mass fractions are related to the dry mass basis. Indicative values are given for Kjeldahl-N, Mo and Se. For Cd, Hg, Al, Cr and Ni values are given for information.
