Abstract

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are a class of important environmental pollutants. Sewage sludge has been found to be a sink for PAH originating from both domestic households and industrial sources. This report describes the preparation, homogeneity and stability of a sewage sludge (CRM 088) certified for its contents of eight different polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The analytical methods used in the certification procedure are summarised. All individual results are reported and recommendations for the analysis are given.
