This paper addresses two general problems relating to resistive magnetohydrodynamic stability. The first of these concerns the persistence of a general stability condition in real systems, occurring especially in plasma physics. The second problem involves the nonperturbative procedure for an ad hoc choice of operators. A nonperturbative analysis demonstrates the existence of a critical density for the appearance of an overstability and the connected Hopf bifurcation.
