Stored energy in irradiated salt samples
This report concerns research into radioactive waste disposal in rock salts. Laboratory gamma-irradiations at a constant temperature (100 C) were carried out in two sets of experiments. The different types of samples used in the experiments are described and the following subjects are discussed: (i) the functioning of the sample holders; (ii) radiation damage development as measured by DTA; (iii) the size of aggregates of defects determined by small angle neutron scattering (SANS); (iv) comparison of results with the predictions of the Jain-Lidiard model; (v) pre- and post-irradiation sample characterisation.
