Ergonomics action in mining : The results of the fifth ECSC programmeFunded under: ECSC-ERGONOM 5C
This volume presents the results of an ECSC programme of ergonomics aimed at improved health, safety and quality of life in underground mining, which was completed during the period 1987 to 1992. It reports on some 32 ergonomics action projects carried out in five coal mining countries, dealing with the ergonomic design of mining machinery, the design of informatic systems now being introduced in various aspects of mining, and ergonomic factors ancillary to coal mining such as powered support systems, roof bolting and manual handling. There are also reports on underground illumination and hearing protection. Several surface aspects of coal mining are touched upon including an important study on access to bunkers. A report on risk perception and hazard awareness and the development of this concept into an ergonomic audit for the identification of safety hazards is also included.
