Abstract

In this work the mechanical and microstructural properties have been studied of some experimental heats of 9Cr1MoNbVN steel, characterized by different content of P and Si, and treated by different tempering conditions. It was observed that the creep and mechanical behaviour are conditioned by the tempering of time and temperature. The heats with different P contents have been aged in the furnace at 600 C for 9000 hours to evaluate possible P embrittlement. Under these conditions the material doesn't appear to be susceptible to embrittlement (P content < 200 ppm). During the work an industrial heat has been produced of 9Cr1MoNbVN by electric arc furnace, forging, extrusion and hot pilger milling to obtain tubes with large diameter and thickness. Good results have been obtained by non destructive testing (NDT) technique and metallographical and mechanical tests for the mechanical and microstructural characteristics of the products obtained.
