Abstract

The results show, coarse grained blast furnace slag lime to be suitable as liming agent for forestry. The converting ratios of these granular materials (ie the setting free of CaO, MgO and K(2)O, is more modest in comparison to the fine grained materials). On the other hand the coarser materials have a long time efficiency. For manure purposes in forestry this will be a desired effect, because a low neutralizing velocity results in treating the humus layer with consideration. Therefore no extreme reduction of the humus layer and no significant nitrate rinsing will occur. Liming of the acidic forest soils show another positive effect on decreasing the Al concentrations. After being limed the concentrations of Al in the percolating water show distinct lower values in comparison to the pot tests without any lime. In addition the coarser lime especially slag lime show good results during spreading. First trials spreading slag lime by helicopter show proportionate spreading figures on the forest ground.
