Abstract

The standardisation of a 50 GBq 152,154Eu extended volume source is described, which is used to determine the linear power dissipation of irradiated fuel pins in reactors for materials testing. This source consists of a foil of irradiated europium rolled into a close cylindrical geometry within an aluminium housing. A solution of 152Eu was standardised and a quantitative 50 MBq strip source was prepared (with the same dimensions and in an identical housing as the 152,154Eu extended volume source). The two sources were compared by measuring their spectra with the IRMM gamma-ray scanning system at a source-to-detector distance of approximately 4 m and a collimator diameter of 4 mm.
