Abstract

The hot rolling process induces the formation of oxide at the surface of stainless steel coils. This oxide is eliminated by shot blasting, electrolytic pickling and chemical pickling. A new pickling process, UG3P, has been developed which significantly reduces pollution hazard. The aim of this study has been to apply this process to an automated annealing pickling line. The UG3P process is reviewed and the annealing pickling line, as it was prior to this study, is described. A mathematical model has been developed to optimise thermal regulation, in particular for transitory regimes. The analytical behaviour of the pickling process has also been studied to improve the reliability of control methods.
