Abstract

PISC (Programme for the Inspection of Steel Components) is particularly concerned with the examination of pressure vessels and piping by non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques. Three projects are centred on the JRC, which acts as both an operating agent and a reference laboratory. The programme is now at the end of its third phase (PISC III); activities concentrate on the validation of the PISC II results on real structures containing service defects and on the extension of the PISC methodology to the most important structural components made of different materials. Most of the PISC test assemblies and structure pieces are representative of (or come from) nuclear reactor components.
