Naloxone, flumazenil and dantrolene as antidotes
This volume provides an introduction to the series on the evaluation of antidotes and reviews three antidotes: (i) naloxone, a specific opioid antagonist used in the treatment of opiate poisoning; (ii) flumazenil, used to reverse the sedative, anti-convulsant and muscle-relaxant effects of benzodiazapines; (iii) dantrolene sodium, used in the treatment of malignant hyperpyrexia and hyperthermia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome and hypercatabolic syndrome. Information is given on the physico-chemical properties of the antidotes, analytical methods used and studies (animal, volunteer and clinical) conducted.
