Abstract

The technical and economic feasibility of the re-use of activated/contaminated steel scrap in concrete for new nuclear power plants, nuclear disposal facilities and waste containers has been examined. This report presents the results of the research undertaken and considers the techniques which are suitable to convert steel scrap into usable particles such as fibres or granules which can be added to concrete. For the best combination of concrete and steel particles, the radiological aspects of this kind of concrete were examined. Economic feasibility is discussed using the capital value analysis method.
