This report is concerned with methods of assessing the creep deformation and rupture of shell structures when subjected to severe thermal loading, with the objective of providing nuclear designers with relatively simple means of judging the severity of loading in the range of circumstances appropriate to fast breeder reactor design. Theoretical results are derived using plasticity and creep theorems, which provide bounds on deformation properties and creep rupture life, and these results are compared with available experimental data.
