National and Community research policies and programmes on reactor safetyFunded under: JRC-REACTSAFE 6C, JRC-RES 8C
This report has been prepared following the Council decision of 29 June 1984 which recommends the European Commission's Programme Management and Advisory Committees (CGCs) to compare regularly national scientific research and technological development programmes in fields of interest in the Community, and to provide the Commission with information relating to such comparisons in order to identify coordination activities that could be undertaken among member states. The countries which have contributed to the report are Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom together with the Joint Research Centre of Ispra and DG XII/F for the Commission. The topics attracting the greatest attention appear to be control and operator guidance, PRA/PSA, severe accidents (especially the in-vessel phenomena of core degradation and melt relocation) and fracture mechanics. The report includes a list of major nuclear research facilities in the member states.
