Generating alternatives for siting using genetic algorithms and multiple criteria decision techniques
This paper presents a methodology aimed at generating alternatives for siting of facilities. The purpose of the tool being developed is to give the user a preliminary set of feasible alternative sites so that further analysis can be conducted by other formal methods. The search is carried out by applying genetic algorithms (GAs), analogous to natural processes, for optimisation and search procedures. The merging of aspects of multi-criteria theory and GAs is discussed.
