A field study in air traffic control (ATC) has been conducted in which the activities of air traffic control operators (ATCOs) were examined during the approach control phase. The research aimed to analyse the causes and effects of stress on ATCO cooperative work, distributed cognition, attention and communication. The data collection, transcription and analysis are described. The results obtained are to be used to improve the conceptual basis for information support tools and to analyse the impact of information technology on work conditions.
