Abstract

This paper discusses the main steps that have been taken to create the European soil geographic database. Various versions of the spatial soil database are described and details of the creation of a knowledge database are presented. The mapping method used to create a legend for soil mapping units (SMU) is explained. The final aim of the work is to create a spatialised soil database for the whole European territory including central and eastern Europe.
