Mass spectrometry in the analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls
This article considers the use of mass spectrometry in the analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and gives details of the various techniques which can be applied. Regulations controlling the use of PCBs are outlined and PCB properties and commercial mixtures, their toxicity and their occurrence in the environment and impact on human health are examined. PCB degradation, destruction and decontamination processes are described. Details of interlaboratory comparisons are provided.
