This report examines the varying land-use planning controls which are applied within the European Union over the siting of new major accident hazards, extension of existing ones and the use of land in their vicinity. It considers what conclusions can be drawn from the arrangements described and suggests areas for further exploration in the interests of greater harmonisation.
