A real-time multiradian phase detector for interferometry based on a digital phase locked loop circuit
A real-time phase detector based on a digital phase locked loop circuit for interferometry in fusion plasma experiments has been constructed. The device can measure phase shifts from -1 x 2(pi) up to 15 x 2(pi) with a resolution of about 0.01 x 2(pi). The measuring range can easily be expanded to larger values. The new phase counter is very insensitive to electrical noise. The ability of the phase counter to follow fast density changes depends only on the beat frequency of the heterodyne interferometer. It has been tested successfully for the density and positional feedback system of the TEXTOR tokamak.
