Abstract

This article focuses on the range of densities, temperatures and particle fluxes to be detected by plasma edge diagnostics. The principles for measuring the electron density, the flux density of neutral particles, the electron temperature and the ion densities by means of emission spectroscopy are discussed, and the properties of the required atomic beams are specified. Applications of the results of the work are described including details of the Li-He beam injection system on TEXTOR.
