This paper provides an overview of the ultrasonic sealing-bolt technology developed at the JRC Ispra. The technique presently implemented for the safeguarding of multielement bottles (MEB) used for the transport/storage of spent fuel is highlighted and details of its main features - a unique random signature and an internal breaking device - are provided. Other applications under study or development are described including counterweight seals and PuO(2) cask seals.
