Industrial risk management : A EEC perspective
New trends in European legislation aimed at controlling the risk of major accidents in industry are examined. The principles relating to the control of accident hazards are set out and the implementation of Directives by the member states of the European Union is discussed. The roles that the public, the competent authorities and industry have to play in risk management policy are outlined and emphasis is placed on the adoption of safety management systems (SMS). The major challenges facing researchers as regards aspects of risk assessment and decision making, and SMS-research are outlined.
