Inelastic neutron scattering from 238U
The neutron inelastic scattering cross-section of 238U at four distinct neutron energies in the low keV region has been measured using a 30 m flight path on the pulsed neutron source GELINA. The scattered neutrons are detected in a plastic scintillator after passing through a 270 mm iron filter. The values obtained for the cross-section to the first excited 2(+) state in 238U are 293 +/- 31, 660 +/- 296, 978 +/- 73 and 1176 +/- 95 mb at neutron energies of 68.2, 126.6, 182.4 and 213.6 keV respectively.
