Studies in machine translation and natural language processing : Volume 5 - Terminological knowledge in multilingual language processing
A new approach to machine translation has been developed which combines grammatical processing on the basis of unification grammars with a direct utilisation of terminological knowledge. The feasibility of incorporating terminological knowledge (expert knowledge) into a natural language processing (NLP) system is demonstrated, and the issue of how this factor affects analysis and translation output is addressed. The main focus area of the work has been telecommunications and in particular satellite communications. Domain analysis and domain modelling are discussed in relation to knowledge acquisition from different sources, and the ALEP framework is described.
