Research and technology management in enterprises : Issues for Community policy (SAST project No. 8) : Case study on SpainFunded under: FP2-SAST
The aim of this report is to provide an accurate view of the state of technology management in Spain and to present extensive information on present trends. Spain's deficit with respect to the technological balance of payments is reported and relationships between R&D institutions and enterprises are examined. Technology innovation and international competitiveness in firms is considered and the role of local production communities (LPCs) is assessed. A sectoral analysis of the software, chemicals, food processing and mechanical engineering industries is provided from the specific findings of the study. The difficulties faced by Spanish firms are found to be related to small market size, a lack of adequate distribution channels, high financial costs, a shortage of technical workers and the high cost of external advisers.
