Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This report presents and interprets data on the practice of technology management in Portugal gathered from interviews conducted in forty new technology based firms. The Portuguese economy and its knowledge infrastructure is analysed with respect to the labour market, skills and education, and technology transfer and policy. Information about the technology management strategies and practices of the firms reveals certain competence gaps including a shortage of skills and technological threats from more technologically advanced foreign firms entering the market. Conclusions and policy recommendations for technology oriented firms and those in traditional sectors are presented.
