Abstract

This review covers work carried out in the field of metallurgical coking technology. It deals with coal preparation for coke oven use which covers activities such as pre-heating/drying, briquetting and pelletising. The design, construction and operation of coke ovens is analysed and the properties of metallurgical coke in terms of structure, reactivity and strength are discussed. Coke by-products and coke oven effluent are discussed in relation to ways of keeping the waste material produced in the coking process to a minimum.
