Abstract

The aim of this project was to raise the blast furnace coal injection rate as far as possible while charging with different coke grades. At the same time, material was to be removed by means of tuyere probes in order to obtain information about the change in coke properties from the furnace top to the tuyere level. The variation of coke properties over the distance from the tuyere tip as a function of the charged coke grade was of particular interest. The investigation also considered to what extent the mode of blast furnace operation and the processes taking place across the furnace radius influence the coke properties. Results were compared with values measured during all-coke operation.
