European Community R&D action and the energy intensive process industriesFunded under: FP3-JOULE 2
Projects in the JOULE programme in the field of industrial process technologies are principally directed at the more efficient use of energy, taking into account economic and environmental factors. A major effort is devoted to specific types of unit operation, including heat exchangers for heat recovery, energy efficient separation processes and furnaces, kilns and ovens. As the research is precompetitive, emphasis is given to modelling and the investigation of basic phenomena. In parallel with the studies on unit operations, work is being carried out on systems models, process synthesis and dynamic simulation. The development of control strategies and advanced sensors also play a significant role.
