As part of the work of the European Commission's Nuclear Regulators Working Group (NRWG), a task force has been set up to consider the topic of regulatory actions related to probabilistic safety assessement (PSA) studies of nuclear power plants in nine European countries. The aims and objectives of the task force were: (i) to assess how regulatory bodies currently estimate the value of PSA results; (ii) to show the current use of the PSA tool at the regulatory level; (iii) to identify specific requirements of PSA methodology and PSA procedures by regulatory bodies; (iv) to identify contributions by the regulatory bodies with regard to the review and the evaluation of the PSAs. As part of the work a questionnaire related to important issues of PSA application was drawn up and circulated to members of the task force. The report analyses the questionnaire responses and other material, and includes conclusions about the role of PSA studies and regulatory actions. Appendices to the report include an overview, in tabular form, of major findings and responses to the questionnaire.
