This research aims at evaluating the cosmetic corrosion resistance of various coated steel sheets for car body application.
The originality of the method consists in comparing corrosion resistance of various coated steel exposed to different conditions after phosphatation and painting : in real time on a car daily running on a circuit; in real time on 5 fixed stations along the same circuit; following different accelerated corrosion tests (Scab test developed by Volvo and HCT test developed by Hoogovens).
Results expressed by the delamination widths from a paint defect, are analyzed in depth with statistical and metallographical analysis.
By decreasing order of importance, the following parameters have been outlined : the nature of the coating; the exposure type; the defect type; the quality of the phosphatation process; the total paint thickness. Scratch orientation (horizontal or vertical) does not influence the natural behaviour of materials. s.
