This report highlights the main achievements and milestones of the Institute's work during 1993. The specific programmes are presented including details of basic safety research on nuclear fuels, safety aspects of fuel operation and handling, actinide determination and recycling, the characterisation of waste forms and high burn-up fuel, and actinide research. Exploratory research in 1993 investigated the frequency dependence of acoustic aerosol agglomeration, and scientific-technical support to Community policies concerned work for the safeguarding of fissile materials. A list of publications and information on collaboration with external organisations are also provided.
