Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

To provide precise information on agricultural production, the European Commission set up a pilot project to introduce remote sensing into the European Community agricultural statistics system. This report provides an assessment of the sources of information related specifically to global radiation. It includes an inventory of the radiation balance components which are observed by the different meteorological services in Europe. As radiation observations are not always available, the report also identifies a methodology for estimating daily global radiation. Two formulae are presented: one based on maximum and minimum temperature alone and one based on these variables in combination with cloud cover.
