The partitioning of minor actinides and long-lived fission products, and their transmutation into less hazardous nuclides, is being studied as a possible option in order to reduce the long-term radiological risk associated with directly disposed spent fuel or high level radioactive waste from fuel reprocessing. The purpose of the meeting was to offer a platform to arrange possible cooperations, to enable the drawing together of resources and to evaluate progress in the field of targets and fuels containing minor actinides or fission products for transmutation. Presentations by the participants included overviews of national programmes, transmutation strategies, facilities for studies on fresh and irradiated targets, and studies on material properties of minor actinide targets before and after irradiation.
