Energy methods in dissipative magnetohydrodynamics
This paper summarises the status of energy methods in linearised resistive magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and discusses nonlinear stability of dissipative MHD flows with fixed boundaries. Conditions for nonlinear stability of dissipative MHD flows are applied to the time dependent magnetised Couette flow. Hopf bifurcations due to overstability result in a periodic nonlinear oscillation.
