Theoretical model of the plasma edge : Part II : Transport along the open field lines of a magnetic island belt associated with the ionization instability
The model of anomalous orbit losses along open field lines displacing radial excursions is shown to provide the stationary density and temperature profiles as well as the particle confinement time. Preliminary order of magnitude considerations are used for an analytical solution of the relevant stationary transport equations. Scaling laws derived from the analytical solutions are compared with the results of exact numerical integration. In the low confinement regime of the DIII-D tokamak, ionisation instability appears to be checked by electron Landau damping.
