Abstract

Ternary fission count rates have been determined experimentally for the neutron induced fission of 235U and the spontaneous fission of 242Pu. A double Delta E-E detection set-up was constructed to measure alpha-particles and tritons emitted in ternary fission reactions. Ternary-to-binary fission ratios are compared for different resonances in the (n,f) cross-sections. A possible correlation between these ratios and known yields for standard (binary) fission modes is investigated in the case of different resonances for 235U(n,f) and in the case of the spontaneous fission of several Pu-isotopes.
