Abstract

Very high resolution neutron transmission measurements of two aluminium samples were performed in the energy range 170 keV up to 25 MeV. Time-of-flight (TOF) and 1 ns linac bursts were used to measure neutron energies. Total cross-section data from the two sample thicknesses have been analysed, together with data from earlier Harwell measurements, using the R-matrix least square fitting program REFIT to deduce parameters of 48 resonances in 27Al up to 850 keV. The s-wave average level spacing D = (62.0 +/- 9.3) keV and the s-wave strength function S = (1.95 +/- 0.80) x 1.0 E-4. Spin independent regular spacings are observed for s-wave resonances.
