Burner rig hot-salt corrosion of hot pressed Si(3)N(4)-3wt%Al(2)O(3)-8wt%Y(2)O(3)
This paper investigates the extent of hot-corrosion due to a dynamic salt contaminated combustion environment on a Si(3)N(4) with 3 % Al(2)O(3) and 8 % Y(2)O(3) in a burner rig. The work has been conducted in the temperature range useful for corrosive applications for structural ceramics (1000 - 1300 C). Kinetic behaviour and microstructural changes are highlighted and the effects of combustion products and contaminants on corrosion rate and corrosion product morphology are discussed.
