Hydrogen transport parameters in the low activation martensitic steel LA12TaLN, after thermal treatmentsFunded under: JRC-FUSAFE 5C
Diffusivity and solubility of hydrogen in the low activation martensitic steel LA12TaLN have been measured by a gas evolution method. It is shown that diffusivity is constant as a function of the saturation pressure and that the Arrhenius plot is not linear over all the temperature range. After an XPS analysis a strong increase in chromium oxide is observed and a significant presence of manganese oxide is seen. It is concluded that due to the presence of oxidising impurities in the experimental volume, LA12TaLN has increased its oxide layer forming a permeation barrier.
