Various design and operational aspects of ETHELFunded under: JRC-FUSAFE 5C
The use of tritium as a basic fuel material in a thermonuclear fusion reactor raises safety issues due to the combined effects of its physico-chemical characteristics and its radioactive nature. This paper highlights some anticipated complications in the new tritium facility, ETHEL, and discusses how problems such as the storage and control of tritium and conditioning of tritiated wastes can be resolved.
